Many times in life, we seem to be waiting.
Just waiting.
Waiting for someone to come along and tell us that we are are doing fine, we are leading life the right way. Many of us seem to be waiting around for someone to tell us that it’s okay to have the dreams that we have, that it’s okay to have the desires and passions that we have.
That it is absolutely okay to want to do the things we want to do – be a painter, a writer, go live on a farm somewhere in the countryside, to travel the world (though that has to wait now), to quit our lousy sucky job, to go take that degree we’ve always wanted to, to open our own shop, to start a bakery business….
The list goes on and on.
Some of us spend our whole lives just waiting for someone to come up to us and tell us, hey it’s okay to want these things. And it’s okay to go after what you truly want.
So how do you stop waiting for people to tell you what to do with your life and start making moves to get into the driver’s seat of your life?
Here’s a tip:
You don’t need a 3, 5 or 10 step plan to get to where you want to be or be whoever you want to be
Many of us procrastinate because of whatever reasons we have – fear, indecisiveness, a lack of self-esteem.
And some of us wait around because we feel that we need this x-step plan in our lives so we can chart a proper path to get to where we want to be.
So we spend months and years planning. We plan and we plan somemore. We try to come up with this non-existent perfect plan, in hopes that doing such a thing will get us quickly to where we want to be.
But if there is anything that the pandemic this year has taught me is that – you can plan til the cows come home, but you can never predict how life will play out.
You just can’t. How many of us had plans that fell apart this year unexpectedly?
Life is so unpredictable. We desire something, plan something and get something else.

So whilst having a rough plan is a great start in getting us to step in the right direction, sometimes what we need to do is just.. start.
Simply start wherever you are.
Want to be an author? Start googling for writing classes, start reading more, start writing your own bits of prose.
Me? I wanted to learn to draw better and pick up watercolouring skills so that I can paint and perhaps sell something in future. So I decided to take up drawing lessons online.
It’s a small step but it’s a step in the right direction.
So what small step can you take today?
If you don’t start somewhere, you’re gonna go nowhere.
