Way before I discovered chakra healing, I was operating a lot from my ego mind, which is really just our conscious, human mind. Just like many on this planet, I relied alot on my mind to think of ideas and solutions to anything and everything. But our human minds don’t always have all the solutions – and our thoughts and experiences are coloured alot by our reality. Thus operating solely from our minds can leave us feeling very limiting and claustrophobic.

When we are “forcing” a solution from our minds, we are actually signaling to the Universe and your Higher Self, that you don’t really trust yourself nor the process of life. That you do not trust things to unfold organically, with the help of the Universe – hence the need for your mind to solve everything.

Our minds love to be in control as well, hence letting go and surrendering to the process is hard to do. And being overly controlling does not help us to deal with the sense of uncertainty that life can – and often – brings.

I’m not a very religious individual – and you don’t have to be, in order to practice concepts like surrendering to a Higher Power and to a consciousness that is beyond us. When I started practicing chakra healing, I started to become more conscious of a different kind of power out there – of forces that are beyond me, and that are intangible, but that sometimes dictate how our life flows.

I know this is all sounding very abstract and woo-woo, but I assure you it is not. If anything, the invitation here is to allow more of those Higher Powers into your life. How?

#1 Learning to quiet your ego mind

Our ego mind is always noisy – it’s full of thoughts, criticisms, judgments and all the human stuff. We have not been taught how to quiet our minds, but when we do, we allow other sources of wisdom and power to get through to us. We start to be able to hear what our Higher Powers have got to tell us. We start to be more sensitive to nudges that we seem to “get out of nowhere”.

We need to be able to quiet down our ego minds to allow these external sources of power to reach for us. When you start to quiet (and control) your human mind, you will start to notice that you are able to “hear” intuitive messages and guidance that you couldn’t hear before.

#2 Connecting with God and your chosen source of Higher Power

A great way to start connecting with our Higher Powers is to start seeking them out. If you have a God or a deity that you connect with, reach out and start praying and connecting with their energy. If you are not religious, it will be a great time to start looking around for Spirit Guides.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here is a guide. Spirit Guides come in many forms – ancient Gods and Goddesses, Angels, different spiritual figures in our history etc. Start connecting with them frequently, have conversations with them, ask them for help, reach out to them, write to them (I love this) and sometimes you’ll start to feel a nudge towards certain courses of action.

When I started exploring and connecting with my Spirit Guides, I’d use Oracle and Tarot cards often as a tool for us to communicate. You may even ask for a sign and see if they show you the way.

#3 Accepting the present as it is

One of the toughest things about being human is to accept our current life as it is. To not resist but to let it flow. It can be tough because the human experience is filled with some dark and awful things. Resisting it actually makes it harder for us to heal from it. To move on in life and allow in other experiences, it’s important for us to be okay with where we are at currently, and to surrender to the process of life.

It is tough, honestly I’m still learning. It’s incredibly difficult to let go of the human habit of wanting to always be in control and to predict everything – to go from that to just letting go and gently holding onto life – now, that is everything.
