Younger me never knew what intuition or the inner voice was. Gut feeling? What on earth was that?
Living in a society that always emphasised rationality, thoughts, scientific approaches and more, intuition and emotions were known as feminine qualities, seen as inferior and unreal, because they weren’t tangible and can’t be seen or felt. Or understood.
For me, with someone with a spiritually inclined family and with Pisces in my North Node, as well as significant planets in my 12th and 9th houses, I was meant to tap on my intuitive gifts.
I didn’t know this of course, because my inner voice was suppressed by the culture I lived in and I always thought that intuition is a gift that only others had.
Perhaps you felt that way too. But I’ve come to learn that intuition is something that everyone has, it is just whether we’ve been given the tools to develop it in our lives.
The form you have selected does not exist.
So what is intuition anyway?
Intuition to me has always been a combination of one’s inner voice, together with the ability to read the vibration/energy of something or someone and feeling things in different parts of your body.
Our inner voices are very different from our inner critics and are usually quiet, peaceful and calm. Many of us are unable to tap into our inner voice because so much of it is drowned out by the anxious thoughts in our minds. I touch on the differences between them here.
We also have not had the tools to learn how to trust ourselves and have confidence in our own beliefs and emotions. We’ve been told by society to dismiss them and replace them with rational thinking and evidence. You often see people associate rationality with intelligence, but never intuition.
Another sign your intuition is speaking to you is if you constantly feel an inner nudge. Like an unexplainable draw or pull to do something or be somewhere.
Answer those nudges – I always have and they have never disappointed me!
How does tarot serve as an intuitive tool
As I was starting on my journey to cultivating intuition, I incorporated different methods into my practice to help gain better access to my inner voice.
I did alot of automatic writing, a method I talk about in my energy guide below. I did alot of chakra healing (check out my book here) and healing meditations. I tapped more into my lesser-used senses.
And one of the methods I used the most was making ues of my tarot and oracle cards to gain a better connection with myself.
I would ask questions and then feel into the energy to see what came up.
There are also other aspects of the tarot that can help your intuitive powers:
Paying attention to the energy of the cards
Every card carries a certain type of energy. Some energy is light, some a little darker, some abit difficult to grasp. Not all cards with heavy energy are “bad”. In my opinion, there isn’t any bad energy apparent within the cards, it’s what we are picking up from it.
Cards with a heavier energy have something to teach us and it has appeared to you for a reason. Being aware of what energy the card holds can give you insight into what lessons you need at this moment in time.
Paying attention to the visuals
All cards have symbolism. It is in the artwork, the colours, the objects placed in them, the name of the card (especially with oracle decks). They all come together to represent something. If something catches your eye in particular, ask yourself why.
If certain drawings or visuals repel you, ask yourself why too. Journal about them. Ponder their meanings. Some symbols are not apparent at first but when you think about them abit more, you will start to understand why. Each card tells a story, what story is it telling you?
Paying attention to your own energy and interpretations of said energy
When we are looking at the cards and feeling into its energy, get aware also of your feelings and what comes up for you. Describe those feelings and emotions in detail. Does it relate to a specific area in your life?
